Genzano has origin from a castle guarding the lake of Nemi
on the "Fundus Gentianus" of imperial age. From the XIII to XV
century the village passed, with alternate events, from the monks of Sant'
Anastasio to the Orsini and to the Cistercensi and therefore to the Colonna,
whom obtained the papal investiture on 1410. Only on 1564, Giuliano Cesarini
definitively acquired it for 15,200 shield and its family held the coat
of arms until 1870, when Genzano it was proclaimed village of Italy. Thanks
to the effort of duke Cesarini, above all by Giuliano II and Livia Sforza-Cesarini,
that the modern town has been built, the tree-lined avenue
of the olmate ones (olm tree), the "tridente barocco" of the three
roads that go to the public square center. At the end to the "olmate"
there is the family palace "Sforza Cesarini".
Altitude 435, 29km from Rome.
