Since a millennium Monte Compatri stands on a hill 600 mt
above sea-level and 25 km far from Rome. This is a place still able to give
a taste of peace, not easy to find nowadays, even in those villages, that
with the help of technologies, have been preserved as they were 400-500
years ago.
To Monte Compatri history belong the Dome, dedicated to Maria Assunta in
Cielo, built at the beginning of seventeenth century on a pre-existent church
dedicated to Santa Brigida, and the Fountain of the Angel, a monument built
at the end of nineteenth century and dedicated to all people that wasted
their lives to carry water from the springs in Carpinello to the village.
Monte Compatri was also the birthplace of many great artist and cultural
personalities: the eighteenth century mathematic Marco Mastrofini,
who, according to the experts, revised and improved the Gregorian calendar,
even if his version had never been applied; the artist Filippo Luzi,
a talented painter born in 1665, whom only few works have been preserved
in two churches San Francesco di Paola and Santa Prassede,
both in Rome; the lyric singer Alessandro Moreschi, known
as the Angel of Rome, the first voice and probably the
last boy's voice of the chorus in the Vatican Sistine Chapel.
Altitudine 576mt, 28Km da Roma.
